Short and plain.
PetitMotif is an iPhone app that turns a word into a small cross-stitch pattern. It's made by Luis Guzman Lorenzo ("we"). This page explains what the app collects, why, who handles it and how long we keep it.
The short version
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no analytics or advertising SDKs.
- We keep what you make (your word, the picture and the pattern) and how the app is used, so we can improve PetitMotif. It's linked to a random code made by the app, not to your name, email or Apple ID.
- Everything we keep, except your credit balance and purchase record, is deleted after 90 days.
What we collect
- What you ask for and what we make: the word you type, the picture our image service draws from it, and the stitch pattern the app builds, including the version you export after changing colours.
- Feedback: the options you pick and anything you type in the app's feedback sheet. Please don't include personal details there.
- How the app is used: simple events with the time and app version, such as sending a word to be drawn, tapping an idea, adjusting colours, saving to Photos, sharing, opening the store, running out of credits, seeing an error, or finishing a stitch-along session. A stitch-along event only carries counts (for example how many stitches you ticked off), not your marks.
- Purchases: which credit pack was bought. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details.
- A random install code: made by the app the first time you use it, so we can tell that several patterns came from the same install. It isn't your device's advertising identifier and isn't linked to who you are.
We don't collect your name, email, contacts, location or photos. Exporting saves pictures into your Photos; the app never reads them. Sharing sends both pictures (the colour picture and the chart) through the iOS share sheet to wherever you choose; it doesn't pass through us. Your patterns in My patterns and your stitch-along marks stay on your phone. Your credit balance is kept on our server, linked only to the app's random install code, not to a name, an email or an account.
Why
- To make your pattern: your word is checked against our rules and sent to our image service to draw the motif.
- To improve the app: to see what people try to make, where patterns come out badly and where the app fails.
We don't sell your data and don't use it for advertising.
Who handles it
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud (United States) run our server and store the data above.
- Google Gemini first checks your word against our rules (a small text model reads it), then draws the picture from it. Under Google's terms for the paid Gemini API, Google doesn't use your word or the picture to improve its products; it keeps them for a limited period, only to detect and prevent abuse (Gemini API terms).
- Resend (United States) delivers a weekly email to us with the feedback people send in the app, including anything they type in the feedback box. The email has no install code or account details. Resend may keep a copy of it for a limited time.
- Apple handles purchases and confirms that requests come from the real PetitMotif app.
- Google Forms runs our contact form and receives whatever you type into it.
How long we keep it
Words, pictures, patterns, events and feedback are deleted automatically from our databases after 90 days. The weekly feedback email is kept in our inbox, and Resend may keep its own copy for a limited time. Your credit balance and purchase record are the exceptions: your credit balance is kept until you ask us to delete it, and your purchase record is kept with it.
Your choices
- Deleting the app stops all collection.
- Because there are no accounts, we can't look up your data by name. To have it deleted sooner, or to ask what we have, use our contact form: find your install code at the bottom of the in-app store, tap Copy code, and paste it into the form. We'll find your data by that code and delete it.
- California: we don't track you across apps or websites, so the app behaves the same whether or not a Do Not Track signal is sent.
Children
PetitMotif isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
