When you write, it helps to include your install code (see "Where's my install code?" below), your iOS version, and what you typed. It saves us a round of questions.

Questions, answered

Is PetitMotif made with AI?

Yes. When you tap Generate pattern, your idea goes through our server to Google Gemini, which draws a small picture. PetitMotif turns that picture into a stitch chart with real DMC threads.

That's a first draft. From there it's yours: change any colour or stitch in Edit, try again, or start from one of the free patterns that come with the app. We try not to stitch famous characters or other artists' styles. We still stitch hand-designed charts too, and we love them. If that's your thing, we get it.

What we keep, and for how long, is on the privacy page.

Making patterns

Why was my word refused?

PetitMotif makes original designs, so we try not to stitch famous characters, logos or artists' styles. It's a best effort: now and then a harmless word gets stopped, and now and then one slips through. No credit is used when a word is refused. Try your own idea instead, désolé!

The pattern looks off. What can I do?

Tap Edit to change colours or single stitches. Tap Try again for a fresh go (it uses one credit), or start over with a simpler word, such as "red apple" rather than "an apple on a table".

Are there free patterns?

Yes. A few come with the app, under Free with PetitMotif in My patterns. You can open them and stitch along without using a credit.

How do I print a pattern?

Tap Save chart to Photos on the results screen. You get two 1080 × 1080 images: the colour preview, and the chart with the thread list. Print them from the Photos app. Bonne broderie!

Credits

How do credits work?

You get 2 free patterns on a new install. Your credit balance is kept on our server, linked only to the app's random install code, not to a name, an email or an account.

Each new pattern uses one credit, and so does Try again on the results screen. If something goes wrong and no pattern comes out, no credit is used. Need more? Tap the credits counter at the top of the first screen to open the store, which sells packs of 5, 15 and 40 patterns; prices are shown there. They're one-time purchases handled by Apple, and the credits never expire.

What happens to my credits on a new phone?

PetitMotif has no accounts, so credits don't move to a new phone by themselves. Copy the install code from the old phone (if you still have it; see "Where's my install code?" below) and send it, with the new phone's code, through the contact form, and we'll help. Your patterns in My patterns stay on the old phone too.

Where's my install code?

On the first screen of the app, tap the credits counter at the top right (it says something like "2 left"). That opens the store. Scroll to the bottom and tap Need help? Show your install code, then tap Copy code and paste it into the contact form.

Your patterns and your data

Where are my patterns?

In My patterns, on your phone. They aren't synced anywhere, so deleting the app deletes them. Save chart to Photos first if you want to keep a copy.

How do I delete my data?

Send your install code through the contact form and ask us to delete it. Because there are no accounts, the code is how we find what's yours. Your credit balance and purchase record are the only things we keep longer than 90 days, and the privacy page has the details.

Which iPhones does it work on?

Any iPhone running iOS 26 or later. There's no iPad version yet. Available in the United States and Canada.
